Hayes & Yeading United 3
Colliers Wood United 0

A young Hayes & Yeading United line up improved their chances of winning the Southern Youth League by defeating Colliers Wood United comprehensively at The Warren on Thursday night.

Much of the game was dominated by the home side but they took a while to get going and Colliers Wood would have taken the lead early on but for a wayward finish from right in front of goal.

Dean Critchfield’s side soon got into their stride and really ought to have had a penalty awarded when Josh Andrew was clearly tripped whilst trying to latch onto a Hasib Saeed centre, but all the appeals were waved away.

The hosts did finally take the lead in the 28th minute. Andrew got in behind the visitors’ defence on the right and cut the ball back from the bye line to the far post where Daniel Wishart was waiting to pounce with a low finish.

Despite going close on several occasions, it wasn’t until the 73rd minute that United pressed home their advantage as Daniel Mehmet firmly headed home Andrew’s corner.

A fierce Jamie Di Guiseppe free kick cannoned off the underside of the bar and bounced down onto the goalline to deny the left back a fine third and Pacome Gboho blazed over from close range when he connected with Mohammed Bashley’s long throughball, before Alex Harris managed to secure the win three minutes from time by slotting home past the advancing Colliers Wood keeper having been put through by Mehmet’s slide rule pass.
