Half-Time: 1-1 Referee: Mr C Dennis

A late Jack Todd strike saw Hayes & Yeading United to victory in a seven goal thriller against a very good Uxbridge side at the Warren which saw United progress in the Middlesex County Cup.

The game was to see a superb start from the visitors who took the lead in just the third minute when Daniel Fleming sweetly met an Alden Trenholme cross to drive an unstoppable shot past Alex Tokarczyk from the edge of the area.

Minutes later Fleming almost turned creator when his cross was met on the volley by Ryan Dearden but his effort went across the face of goal and wide. Still the visitors pressed and when a weak James King header fell to Jamie Langton the United defence were grateful that his first time volley was off target.

In the 20th minute United pulled level in controversial circumstances. Mark Goodman made his way into the Uxbridge area and rode two tackles but lost control of the ball, referee Mr Dennis however saw it differently and pointed to the penalty spot. Skipper Abdula Nsubuga stepped up and confidently sent keeper James Warrington the wrong way.

The half continued with chances being created by both sides. Just three minutes after scoring Nsubuga went close again when his stooping header from Daniel Wishart's cross went wide off the outside of the post. At the other end substitute Mikey Wilson met a right wing cross on the volley but his effort dipped just over the United goal.

United started the second period better than the first and could have had a goal within 60 seconds. Goodman made space for himself down the right and crossed to Daniel Blackwood who was only just off target with a scissor kick from just inside the area.

On the hour mark United took the lead, Joakim Ehui broke into the Uxbridge area from his left flank position, beat two defenders before shooting goalwards. His shot was partially blocked by Warrington's dive but the ball just trickled over the line before a defender could clear. Two minutes later the visitors almost pulled level, Fleming broke away but was slowed by the attentions of Matt Loomes, he still managed to get his shot away only to see the ball headed off the line by Abdi Hamadi.

From almost being pulled back, United went further ahead just over a minute later when a Wishart shot from the edge of the area beat Warrington's dive to nestle on the corner of the net.

Despite going two goals behind, Uxbridge showed a great fighting spirit and two goals in six minutes pulled them level with nine minutes to play. First to beat Tokarczyk was the impressive Daniel Rimmel who raced away on the left side before moving into the area and beating the United keeper from a tight angle. Buoyed by this, Uxbridge soon found another as Fleming burst into the area and beat the unprotected Tokarczyk from ten yards.

With extra time looming, it was United who finally settled the tie with four minutes remaining. Ehui beat his man on the left before cutting the ball back from the byeline to substitute Jack Todd who turned his marker and fired past Warrington from just inside the six yard box.
