Hayes & Yeading drew a blank in front of goal for the second week running, this week in the FA Cup with Budweiser against Tonbridge Angels at Kingfield where a goalless draw sees both sides go into Monday's draw ahead of Tuesday's replay at Longmead Stadium.

Phil Babb made two changes to the starting line-up from eight days previous with Louie Soares and Kamaron English starting in place of Frankie Merrifield and Seb Schoburgh, the latter dropping to the substitutes bench.

It was always going to be a tough tie when drawn against an opponent from your own division and this game proved exactly that as United battled against a physical Angels side. The visitors started the game well and having seen a 25 yard drive from Henry Muggeridge fly just past the angle of post and bar, the Angels had the ball in the net on 17 minutes when Mark Lovell headed in unopposed, only to be ruled offside.

United started to slowly come into the game and really should have taken the lead in the 24th minute. Louie Soares, making his first start upon his return to the club, fed English, the wingers shot was deflected straight to Jake Reid at the far post and with former United keeper Clark Masters wrongfooted, the United striker saw his shot go wide off the right hand post.

Very little in the way of goalmouth action came between then and the break with Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz comfortably fielding two long range efforts from another former United man in the shape of Phil Appiah.

Tonbridge were also quickest out of the blocks after the break as Lovell met a Nathan Green corner only to head over and then with ten minutes of the half played a long ball upfield to Soares was controlled before he picked out Reid who fired over from the edge of the visitors area.

Within a minute both sides could have broken the deadlock. Muggeridge nutmegged Adam Everitt in the United box but lasted over from the acutest of angles and as play immediately switched to the other end, Jack Mills found Kelvin Bossman with a long raking pass, the striker brought the ball under control and hit an angled shot that having taken a small deflection was pushed away at full stretch by Masters.

Luke Blewden collected the ball in the United box and blasted over before the 73rd minute saw a long throw from Blewden being part cleared as far as David Ijaha, Jaimez-Ruiz getting down to grasp the ball as it came through the crowd in front of him.

Four minutes later Jaimez-Ruiz produced the save of the game as he dived full length to his left to push out a powerful goalbound header from an unmarked Sonny Miles who rose to meet a Green corner.

This was to be the last noteworthy action of the afternoon and both sides must try again on Tuesday evening at The Longmead Stadium.
