Bedfont Sports scored two late goals to deny a short handed Hayes and Yeading United under 18 side what looked like being a hard earned draw and claim all three points in this Ryman Youth League fixture.
Hayes and Yeading started superbly, but tired as the game went on. In fact, they took just six minutes to open the scoring. Lucas Sinclair accelerated past Bedfont right back Sean Waller but left himself a tight angle for the shot which Callum Coulter pushed around the post. The resulting corner was delivered deep and when Dan Edwards headed the ball back in front of goal, Ekundayo Adebayo rose highest to head the ball just over the line and the goal was awarded despite Coulter's best efforts to claw the ball away.
For the following part of the match, United were operating without any forwards and were defending fairly comfortably until Ollie Wright tested Dom Gossenma's handling with a rising shot from the edge of the area. The equaliser came soon afterwards as Wright found room on the right hand side of the penalty area and lobbed the ball over Gossenma for Fabio Baptista-Dede to touch over the line.
Once again, United became defensively sound and six minutes before half time, almost took the lead when an audacious George Harmes free kick from the touch line almost caught Coulter too far off his line, the visiting keeper patted the ball up in the air before tipping it over his bar. This sparked a period of United pressure in which Ethan Grant hit a shot across goal and just wide of the far post and Deji Alabi fired just over from the edge of the area after good work from Sinclair and Adebayo to keep the move alive.
At the beginning of the second half, Bedfont made a renewed effort to assert themselves on the game, with Baptista-Dede rounding Gossenma but James Magri sweeping up to prevent him from scoring, and with Robbie Joseph testing the United keeper with a low shot which he dived down to his left to collect.
United held off their opposition fairly well but on 63 minutes, a delightful passing move set Bapista-Dede beyond the back line, but Gossenma got sharply off his line to narrow the angle and his shot found the side netting. United responded with Javier Mato delivering a great free kick which Adebayo headed wide at full stretch. However, Bedfont went back on the attack and Waden Burton's near post corner was turned inches wide by an onrushing Chris Mann. Then Wright's probing passing again got Bedfont in behind the tiring back line but Joseph slid the ball just the wrong side of the post.
On 70 minutes, United went desperately close to retaking the lead when Adebayo hit a long shot which cannoned back off the bar. However, Bedfont went even closer seven minutes later as Joseph threaded the ball through to Wright who clipped the ball over Gossenma, only for Dan Edwards to hook the ball off the line. Joseph's follow up header was also blocked on the line, this time by Mato, and Gossenma was able to catch the loose ball.
United's ten men visibly tired in the latter stages and Cowdry-Wood was the next player to latch onto a forward pass only to have his shot deflected wide by Gossenma's leg. However, all of Bedfont's frustrations were finally sated in the 88th minute when Burton beat the offside trap, rounded Gossenma and put the ball into the empty net. They then capped their victory on 90 minutes when Wright slotted into the bottom corner after another throughball beat the United back line.
